• Hegar Uterine Dilators are used in outpatient procedures such as intrauterine contraceptive device insertion as well as surgeries such as dilatation and evacuation, dilation and curettage and uterine biopsy.
• The single ended dilator consists of a handle at one end and a graduated rod like dilator at the other.
• Dilator is held in the dominant hand of the operator and gently inserted into the vagina via the vulva.
• The dilator is inserted into the mouth of the cervix with gentle pressure to dilate it.
• The procedure is repeated with a Hegar dilator of greater thickness until the necessary cervical dilatation is achieved.
